Technical Guidelines
Videos and Posters must be submitted by upload at www.moproject.com Youth must be legal residents of California. All Youth 13-17 must have an Adult Ally in order to enter. A specific type of relationship between an Adult Ally and Youth is not required - for example, they could be teachers, mentors, family members, case managers, or other. Adult Allies are responsible for verifying the age, CA residence, and name of the Youth. Youth must also have permission of his or her parent or legal guardian. By entering, Youth represents that he or she has such permission. Contest organizers will contact parents or legal guardians of Finalists. Youth who do not have permission from their parent or legal guardian may be disqualified and their work removed from the website. Youth can work in teams, but one Youth must be designated as "Team Leader." Teams can create and enter more than one project so that each team member can apply as a 'Team Leader'. Team Leaders will upload/enter the videos on the site. All prizes will be given to the Team Leader - it is up to Team Leaders to share prizes (other than travel) with team members as they see fit. Upon starting the registration process through the Website, the Team Leader will be required to provide his or her first name, a unique username, a password, an email address, and his or her date of birth. Team Leaders should also list all Team Members who helped on the project or appeared in the project, their emails, and dates of birth. As a condition of eligibility, all Team Leaders must complete all aspects of this registration process and are responsible for correctly identifying all members of the team. Team Leaders who fail to credit substantial collaborations or contributions by others may be disqualified for plagiarism and have their work removed from the website and/or be asked to return their prizes or cash equivalent to the Contest Organizers. Entries must be in one of the following forms, each of which will be one Contest Category:
PSA: Stands for a Public Service Announcement. These are a type of commercial - but they don't sell a product. PSA's deal with community problems and solutions. They inspire us to take action. Short Story or Animation: This is the category for all original fiction work. Tell a story. Use actors or puppets or clay to create characters who are facing a challenge. Short Documentary and News: Videos in this category show real people and real situations. If you are showing life as it really is, this is the category for you. Original Spoken Word or Music: Videotape yourself or a friend performing an original piece. They can be speaking, singing, or rapping. Poster: You can make a poster with paint, pen, crayons - whatever you want - and then photograph it so that you can upload it. Or you can use computer software to design a digital poster and upload that. Either way, show us your design skills. The entry MUST have been conceived by the Team and the entry must be the sole and original work of the Team. Teams are permitted to seek input from others prior to submitting the Team's entry. Video can be shot on a variety of formats - ranging from high end, high def camera to cell phones or consumer cameras but can not be larger than 100 MB and must be one of the following formats: AVI, MOV, WMV, MP4, MPEG, FLV, 3GP, and 3G2. Entrants can edit video using software on a computer at school, a community center, or at home. (Note: most PC's have a free copy of either Movie Maker or iMovie already installed.) Or, entrants can use an online tool like one of these:
Posters must be submitted in .gif, .jpg, or .jpeg format and may not exceed 5 MB. Videos and Posters can be in any language. Youth are encouraged to show the diversity of the state of California. Posters submitted in languages other than English must include the English translation in the poster description. Youth are encouraged to submit work at the highest resolution possible. All submissions must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m. PT on May 1, 2009. Time of entry is determined by Contest Organizers in their sole discretion. Any late submissions will be automatically disqualified. Videos may also be disqualified for inappropriate language or behavior, which Contest Organizers shall determine in their sole discretion. We would like to be able to show your videos on television, so broadcast "decency" standards apply. Once an entry is submitted, it cannot be changed, altered or modified. Entry documents, including any written documents, illustrations, video clips, or other materials, become the property of the Contest Organizers and will not be returned. By submitting an entry, each Youth (and the parent or legal guardian of any Team Members) warrants and represents that the entry, and his or her Team's submission:
